Vocational Classes (Ages 11+)

As our students progress through their graded exams, they may also be invited to join a vocational RAD Ballet class (starting with Intermediate Foundation) that runs alongside the RAD Higher Grades (6-8). It is in the vocational ballet grades that students prepare to go onto pointe, and we assess each student individually to see when they are ready for pointe shoes to ensure safe practice.

With ISTD Modern and Tap, once students have completed Grade 6, they move onto Intermediate, Advanced 1 and then Advanced 2 vocational grades.

Dance Styles and Timetable

Ballet

The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) vocational grades are Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2. A high level of commitment is required for students to train for exams at this level.

Contemporary and Jazz

Students aged 11+ also have the opportunity to join one of our non-syllabus Senior Contemporary and Senior Jazz classes. These classes are chance for the students to work on their general technique and performance skills and have fun learning dance routines without the pressure of exams. They are ideal for students who are studying Dance GCSE or A-level who would like to improve their technical dance skills.
